Juan Luis Perez Elevates Creativity
Art Santa Fe’s Art Talks offer attendees an inside look at the artistic experience by way of panel discussions, conversations, and provocative artistic discourse with leading artists, curators, designers, and art-industry professionals. This year, we welcome Contemporary Art Projects USA founder Tata Fernandez as she interviews self-taught Cuban artist Juan Luis Perez about the impact of environment on art and the significance and contribution of Cuban artists to the world.
Perez’s own work is hard to categorize. Worlds Unite, the winner of the 2017 Artexpo New York Poster Challenge, is a mixed-media work that captures the movement and connectedness of a new generation living in a global society. Lost in Lust and Seduction are more figurative; Landscape of the Soul and Flowers of Tomorrow more abstract.
“If I think of something and I feel it, I create it,” Perez says. “I don’t follow any guide or model because for me art is freedom of choice. Rules do not apply to my world. My personal motto is: Technique is learned in school; one is born with art.”
